A Few Peeks at the Week
On Monday after literacy centers, we took some time to recognize Earth Day. The kids choose from 3 types of bird feeders to make. Most kiddos ended up making a couple of different kinds. We then joined Ms. Kroemer's class and headed up to the trails behind the school to hang our feeders. The kids absolutely loved being up there and opted to spend choice time chasing each other around the woods, finding "fossils" and taking a peek at some fairy houses that had been built by a few 1st grade classes. We even picked up a bit of trash while we were there.
Time for some silly faces.........
Yummy Addition
Earlier this week, the kids practiced addition. These guys were showing different ways to make 10 such as 5+5 and 9+1. When we finished our work, we got to snack on some yummy little marshmallows.
Guidance
The kids had guidance with Mrs. Woodard this week. She spent time talking about how all people are different and that is okay. One of the girls was helping with a demonstration.
Reading
Comprehension is the name of the game. As the kids become stronger readers, we spend more of our reading group time retelling and connecting to the stories. Some reading groups worked on retelling projects this week based on a short story called The Knight and the Dragon that I read aloud to them. The focus of this project was answering questions like who, where, when, what and how. This was the first time I had tried something like this with kindergarteners. I was pleased with the results.
Dinosaurs
We continued our study of dinosaurs. Overall, the kids are really excited about this topic. Here is a song we watched on Youtube. I asked the kids to look for inaccuracies. They found lots of them.
Be careful! This tune can get stuck in your head all day. :-)

Telling Time
Just before vacation, we started learning about time. We're learning about analog and digital clocks. Here are some picts of the kids showing what they know. . . and a hamming it up a bit, in some cases. They are learning to tell and show time on the hour. I'm also encouraging them to express time by saying o'clock and not just 3, for example.
