Kinderpond Faces!

Yahoo!  Cute Faces!  I hope you will come and visit the blog regularly.  I'll try to post new pictures and links each weekend.

We worked with number boards this week.  It gave me a chance to see kids
represent numbers with cubes and bears.  I also reminded them that good mathematicians check their work for accuracy.  We got a lot of counting in that day.  Check out their handy work.

Miss T and the kids used oversized playing cards to sequence numbers
and also tell which of two cards showed the bigger number.  We'll use cards
for a number of different math activities this year.

Two kiddos finished snack early and headed to the book nook.   I love it when the kids independently make good choices.  Nice job, you two!

On Friday, we combined our math and art skills to make fall trees.  The kids also had
to be good listeners and follow directions so they would know how many of each leaf color to put on their trees.  These came out soooo nice.  They are on display in the classroom right now.

Using pattern blocks to build pictures

Writing and drawing time....They are really improving in these areas!

Making tall towers with unifix cubes

Just a few cute first day of school photos

We have come so far!

The kids have made amazing progress learning the routines of the classroom.
I've been able to start reading groups with them because the literacy centers are going so smoothly.

Here are some pictures reflecting our days together thus far.
As soon as I send home permission slips, there will be faces to see!  I'll do that this week.

We use Handwriting without Tears to help kids learn efficient ways to write their letters.
In a meeting Friday, the 1st grade teachers were mentioning how much better the handwriting is this year.  I was pleased to hear that as last year was the first time we had all worked with HWT.

I love the detail in this drawing.  The writing that went with it said:

I am playing Super Mario.

Writing and drawing time is one of the most important parts of our day.  The kids have already improved in just the few weeks we have been together.  Be sure to save some of the early writing samples because as the year progresses, the improvement with amaze you.

The kids recently did a sort with Mrs. Fisher, our AWESOME literacy ed tech.
Sorts are a vital part of literacy and numeracy. This was a warm-up sort that asked kids to differentiate between food, clothes and toys.  The sorts will grow increasingly more sophisticated as the kids move forward in their learning.

Cute Quotable

The kids say lots of cute things throughout the day. Sometimes I am quick enough to write them down before I forget what was said.

Here is a cute one from Friday.
